Prototype 1
This was our first prototype. It was pretty similar to out final prototype except it didn't have a light sensor. It also had shorter wings (which you can see in the background of the photo). When we couldn't get the bottles out of the circle on the first attempt it would just leave the circle. So we decided to add the light sensor which is in our final prototype.
Prototype 2
This was our final prototype. It consisted of two very long wings to help knock over and get the bottles out of the circle. It also had a light sensor in front of it to keep it from leaving the circle. Once it hit the black line it would back up and get back into the circle.
Bottle Bot Program
Portfolio Guide Reflection
1. State the assignment (problem/project) in your own words.
We needed to make a robot that would be able to stay inside the circle and move two bottles out of the middle of the circle.
2. What are your input factors? (What do you need to know or do before you can begin?) Include the research you did.
We needed to know how to use the light sensor and how to program it so it would stay inside of the circle. We used a program similar to the line follower since it had to stay inside the white, like the line follower.
3. Describe the process in detail. Explain the steps you followed in order to complete the project.
We used the same design that we used for the cockroach bot. So we didn't have to change to much. Then we made the wings so that it could knock out the bottles. And lastly, we put a light sensor on to keep it from leaving the white circle and then programmed it so when saw the black it would move backwards to stay inside the white.
4. Describe the final output / product in detail: (what are we looking at?)
We are looking at a robot that looks very similar to our cockroach bot. It has the motors in the same places as our previous bot. But instead of skis in the front we added two small wheels and had a light sensor in the front. We also had to very large wings that would connect to the sides of the bot and knock the bottles out.
5. Describe feedback you received during the project (suggestions, comments, etc). From peers, instructor ect.. How did you use this feedback to correct issues with your project?
We were originally going to use the bot with skis in the front and no light sensor. But we were told that we should use wheels in the front to make it move easier. We were also told that we also had to use a light sensor. It would allow the bot to move around the circle without leaving it.
6. What did you learn during the assignment such as tools, skills, design concepts, software, hardware, etc?
We learned how to create a bot that would push items out of a circle and to be able to stay inside of it at the same time using a light sensor.
7. If you were to do the project again, what would you do differently and why? Provide reasons and examples.
If i were do this project again i would have changed the size of our wings and made them more stable. They were to large and not very stable so we had a little trouble trying to get the bottles out without the wings falling off. But other than the that the rest of the bot was fine and I wouldn't change it.
